From 1988 to 2006, Ms. Bornn gave the California Annual Updates on Employment Law for the Continuing Education of the Bar. She continues to teach classes on employment law for numerous statewide and national institutions, bar organizations, administrative agencies, colleges and high schools.
In the past several years, Ms. Bornn presented seminars regarding human resource management issues to the following organizations:
She began her practice at the law firm of Levine, Krom & Unger, after graduating from Whittier College School of Law. At Levine, Krom & Unger, Ms. Bornn was tasked with handling the firm’s complex business litigation trials. In 1984, Ms. Bornn started her own firm, Nancy Bornn A Law Corporation, where she continues to practice today. In 2000, Ms. Bornn and attorney Curt Surls formed the Bornn & Surls law firm as the dba for the corporation. The Bornn & Surls firm primarily represented employees in mediations, litigation and arbitration, while counseling employers in compliance matters. Starting in 2007, Ms. Bornn began to focus on neutral-oriented work, including mediating cases for parties, conducting workplace investigations, testifying as an expert witness, and teaching anti-harassment training. Between 2007 and 2012, Ms. Bornn’s neutral-oriented work grew and the Bornn & Surls firm dissolved. Ms. Bornn now limits her practice to testifying and consulting as an expert witness in employment matters, conducting workplace investigations, and providing one-on-one counseling and training to executives, management and supervisors.
Curt Surls continues to represent employees in mediation, litigation, and arbitration.
